Brief
When CMS approached Chord9, the charity had had for some time an existing DotNetNuke based website. As an organisation supported by charitable donation, it was imperative to maximise the opportunity to receive donations via the website.
Chord9 was briefed to implement systems to improve the existing credit card donation process and to implement a front-end process for donations via the Direct Debit system.
Solution
Due to the exacting technical, security and regulatory demands of the Direct Debit payments system a standalone application was developed to record the direct debit instructions (DDIs). As such, the application could be therefore be hosted on a secure server within the control of CMS’ IT department.
The Direct Debit system requires that a donor’s address is verified for correctness, that the supplied bank details (Account Number and Sort Code) are validated and that donor’s bank branch is allowed to set up direct debits.
Web services from PostCode Anywhere and Unified Software were integrated into the application in order to meet the address and bank details validation requirements. The online DDIs are recorded to a SQL Server database within CMS’ secure network and from this point DDIs are processed via the AUDDIS system.
Credit Card donations are implemented via a simple website form that collects the donation amount and process the transaction securely via WorldPay’s secure payment gateways.
Both the Direct Debit and Credit Card donation applications reflect closely the branding of the CMS website so that both processes appear seamless to the end user.
