Profile
Emergency Scientific & Medical Services (ESMS) and Veterinary Poisons Information Service (VPIS) are both divisions of Guy’s and St Thomas’ NHS Foundation trust (GSTT).
ESMS operates within the Medical Toxicology Information Services (MTIS) department of Guy’s and St Thomas’ NHS Foundation Trust. MTIS was established in 1963 to provide 24 hour poisons information services. Services to support clinical trials and product safety were developed over 20 years alongside the poisons service.

Also part of MTIS, the Veterinary Poisons Information Service (VPIS) is an internationally renowned poisons information service, advising on the management of approximately 25,000 cases each year. The service was officially launched in 1992 and has since assisted with over 150,000 cases. VPIS provides 24-hour telephone advice for veterinary professionals on the diagnosis and management of poisoned animals.

Brief
Both ESMS and VPIS had existing DNN based sites running on older versions of the application. ESMS required a completely revised site with updated branding to tie in with a range of recently agreed printed media. Chord9 was employed to configure the DNN installation, structure the site and to develop a new skin pack to reflect the new branding.
Following the first project, Chord9 was employed to repeat the process for the VPIS division’s site.
Solution
DNN skin packs were developed, both featuring customised third party menu components to improve search engine visibility. Additionally for ESMS, a range of measures were taken to ensure compliance with the NHS’ web accessibility guidelines. End user training and support was provided to both divisions during the site build.
