Profile
The Teacher Learning Academy (TLA) helps schools and teachers to focus on professional learning that is practice-based, provides national recognition and has a sustained impact in the classroom.
The Teacher Learning Academy is sponsored and led by the General Teaching Council for England who partnered with Cambridge Education in order to deliver the TLA website as well as the requisite resources and services.
Following previous successful projects Cambridge Education again approached Chord9 to help implement the TLA website.

Brief
To deliver the TLA website on schedule and to specification, Cambridge Education (CE) assembled a team comprising CE staff and outside contractors.
As a government sponsored initiative a key requirement was that the site should be fully accessible to all potential users i.e. able bodied, visually and physically impaired, keyboard only users and hearing impaired users. The site was therefore specified to comply with UK Disability Discrimination Act (DDA) guidelines and meet W3C WCAG 2.0 priority 1 and 2 guidelines.
Chord9 was contracted to develop a highly flexible DNN package to comply with the accessibility requirements and the supplied graphical design guidance.
Solution
Working closely with the CE web team, a fully CSS based DNN skin package was developed and extensively tested to ensure that the accessibility requirements were met. Site testing was performed using audio and text only browsers in addition to the conventional range of browsers (on both PC and Mac platforms). Third party menu modules were used to maintain the required layout flexibility and the skin package incorporated high contrast views, font scaling and screen width options.
A full Accessibility report was produced for the end client detailing the tests performed and the site’s performance again the tests.
