DotNetNUke upgrading - Why should you be thinking about it? The DotNetNUke software is regularly enhanced and upgraded. A major version upgrade providing significant new functionality is made every 18 – 24 months. Between version upgrades major and minor maintenance releases are made approximately every 6 weeks.
Why upgrade?
There are three main reasons to consider DotNetNuke upgrading:
- To make use of major functional enhancements
- To keep the installation up to date and able to accept the latest releases of 3rd party modules
- To benefit from any necessary bug fixes
Whilst we firmly subscribe to the maxim ‘if it ain’t broke, don’t fix it’, we do recommend having your DotNetNuke installation upgraded at least once every 12 – 18 months. This ensures you will benefit from many of the behind-the-scenes improvements that are made e.g. enhanced XHTML compliance.
DotNetNuke upgrading is, more often than not, a straight forward process. However to ensure a successful upgrade we always download your site and dummy-run the upgrade on our development servers in order to identify and correct any upgrade issues before upgrading any live site.
